Information provided by the town of Skiatook

The town’s permanent one-cent sales tax, which was approved by voters on Dec. 11, 2007, is designated to be used for projects and equipment, according to town officials.

In March 2010, town trustees approved a $4 million loan — which is being repaid with the revenue from the one-cent sales tax — designated to be used for completion of the town’s Central Park on Rogers Boulevard, upgrades to the sports park on West 133rd Street and other projects.

Several of those projects have been completed, but a few more are in process or will be completed soon, according to town officials.

Recently completed

• Skiatook Central Park — The new park includes a lake, playgrounds, walking trails, a bouldering area, splash pad, shelters, restrooms and a new parking lot. Town Coordinator Martin Tucker recently announced the town plans to add swings and eventually an amphitheater, which would make it possible to bring concerts to the park. The park’s expenses were about $1.9 million.

• Emergency Services — The town’s fire department recently received a new fire truck, which includes state-of-the-art fire and rescue equipment, and is stocked with paramedic supplies. The engine had a price tag of $372,000.

• Street Projects — John Zink and Osage Drive, John Zink to Russell/Locust across Oak, Deer Creek, Cherry Street from 6th to Highway 20, Redeagle Drive, Wildhorse, Osage from 133rd to 136th Street, North Bulldog Boulevard, Country Road, South Osage, Saddle Lane.

• Water and wastewater projects - John Zink to Russell/Locust across Oak.

In process

• Sports complex — On Feb. 22, town trustees approved a contract for $888,143.20 for the sports complex project, which will provide additional fields for every sport, restroom facilities and fencing. Although weather conditions will determine much of the construction at the complex, the majority of the work should be completed in about four months, according to Town Coordinator Martin Tucker.

•Public works facilities — Two new public works facilities were approved by town trustees. On Feb. 22, Hood Construction received the $325,000 contract to provide the town with the new facilities. The new buildings will be built next to the three existing buildings, which are beyond repair and will eventually be torn down.

• Street resurfacing — On March 8, town trustees approved a requisition for $50,050 for materials to resurface Lenapah from Oak to Highway 20. The town will pay for the funds with the one-cent sales tax, and Osage County will provide the labor.

On the horizon

• Water and wastewater projects — North John Zink - 1st to north end of John Zink, 3rd Street from Cherry to Locust, 136th Street and Osage, 2nd Street from B to C Street, and C Street from Highway 20 to Cherokee.

• Street repairs — Pine Street and South Russell.
